Aggressive Driving Enforcement

02/21/2008

Statewide Traffic Statistics Reviewed By Ohio State Highway Patrol

Pickaway County District 6 - In a recent report the Ohio State Highway Patrol researched and reviewed enforcement on aggressive drivers, drivers that are going 20+ miles per hour over the posted speed limit.

District 6 rated 3rd out of 10 total districts for the amount of citations issued to aggressive drivers. Distric 6 includes Franklin, Pickaway, Madison, Delaware, Morrow, Knox, Licking and Fairfield Counties. Pickaway County rated 5th out of the 8 counties included.

Of considerable importance within Pickaway County was the amount of aggressive drivers along USR 23. A photo of the traffic safety bulletin for District Six is available to be viewed below. Based on enforcement statistics the majority of aggressive drivers were noted on Saturday and Sundays. In addition, aggressive drivers are observed to increase between the hours of 8am to 10am and again from 2pm to 6pm. There have been several reports completed by WSYX 6 Columbus, as well as other media sources, that rate USR 23 as one of the highest rated roadways for aggressive drivers.

The South Bloomfield Police Department relies heavily on the statistics provided by the Ohio State Highway Patrol as a large portion of accidents occur within the jurisdictional area of the Village of South Bloomfield. In an effort to reduce traffic accidents and reduce aggressive driving, South Bloomfield PD Officers will be focusing on aggressive drivers on the times shown by the OSP research. We encourage drivers to remember the laws of the road, and remember it is better to get to your destination late, than to not get there at all or at the expense of another drivers life. Aggressive driving enforcement that will be focused upon will be 20+ MPH violations, unsafe lane change or changing lanes without signalling as well as following to closely.

Please make sure you are staying within the speed limit, using your turn signal well before your intention to change lanes, and keep a distance of at least 1 vehicle length for every 10 MPH you are travelling.

For more information on the aggressive driving study please go to www.statepatrol.ohio.gov or go to our favorite links section and select the Ohio State Highway Patrol Patch.
