"We will miss you Your Honor, and while some may take your place, none will ever replace you.
From those of us at the South Bloomfield Police Department, we send our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones
of Judge John Adkins and our prayers are with you in this time of sorrow. We are deeply sadened with his loss and we consider
him an honorable person not just for his position, but for the man he was and the memory he leaves behind.
He will always be in our hearts and in our memories. With the care and professionalism in which he served the community
diligently, he will always have an open seat in any of our cruisers to ride along with us and keep us safe. "
- South Bloomfield Police Department
"To John's family and loved ones, I would like to pay you my respects and send my deepest sympathy. Judge Adkins was
a respected and honored person, that deeply cared about the community.
Although I knew little of him as only being an officer and not always at court, the times I did run into him he was a
great person to talk to. Suprisingly, even though I didnt know him a great deal, he always knew my name. I didnt know whether
to be impressed or scared. :)
He was truly a great person. Prayers be with the family and his memory will always be with me"
- Sgt. Robert Dauberman, South Bloomfield PD
"Be strong and courageous...for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9"
- Ofcr. James Zimmerman, Ashville PD
- The Zimmerman Family
"During a recent conversation with John, I advised him that I have taken the experience his court had given me into the
nine counties that I now serve and that I would be doing so for the next two decades in the least. John expressed his
concern over whether or not that was a good thing. I can assure you, as I ensured him, that the experiences were not
only priceless as an officer, but also as a friend. Godspeed, Your Honor"
- Special Agent J.P. Fulton, Norfolk Southern Police
- The Fulton Family
"My prayers go out to the family and friends left behind. I met Judge Adkins numerous times and was always impressed
by his honor, quick wit and knowledge of law. Judge Adkins would patrol the streets and look for criminals here, but now,
at the lords side, will do the same. We will miss you sir, Godspeed your honor."
- Ofcr. Matthew Shipley, South Bloomfield PD
"My deepest regrets, and our thoughts and prayers our with the Adkins family. We have lost a good man, and companion.
It was a pleasure to have met and work with the Honorable Judge John Adkins"
- Ofcr. Ray Baker, South Bloomfield PD
"Please except my deepest sympathy. Judge Adkins is a highly respected man both in the Court Room and in everyones heart.
The Judge was always there no matter what time it happened to be when you needed answers or a warrant for blood draw.
We will miss him greatly both as a great Judge and man. I will miss him."
- Chief Ken McCoy, South Bloomfield PD
- The McCoy Family
"I had the honor and privilege to know the judge since he had been a practicing attorney, and I always found
him to be the best at what he did. I also know, from very personal experience on several occasions that he went out of his
way for the officers and residents of Pickaway County. God Bless"
- Sgt. Johnny Wells, South Bloomfield PD
- The Wells Family
"Please accept my deepest sympathy. Judge Adkins was a great man that many admired. He will be deeply missed by all.
I can honestly tell you that his legacy will live on through all of us. I can not tell you how much respect I had for
Judge Adkins when I first met him when I worked for South Bloomfield when he came to the hospital to do a warrant for
a blood draw. I was amazed that one judge would go to such great lengths to assist law enforcement in completing ther
duties. Once I went to Laurelville in Hocking County I met Judge Wallace for Hocking County. Everytime I talked to Judge Wallace
I would tell him of warrants for blood draws and how Judge Adkins had assited. To my amazement Judge Wallace contaced Judge
Adkins this last year and now Hocking County does the same thing. We will all miss him."
- Chief James Taylor, Laurelville PD
"Growing up in Pickaway County, everyone knew who Judge Adkins was. He was always seen as a fair judge and if you met
him in the courtroom, always made you really think about what you did to put you there. He was a great leader in the community
and will be greatly missed. My sympathy goes out to the Adkins family"
- Jennifer Dowdy, Beaufort, South Carolina
"Words cannot express how much i will miss you and your unique sense of humor, everyday working with you brought smiles
to our faces, and a deep comfort knowing all is well in our court. I always called you my robed warrior and you truley were
the best. my deepest sympathy to your family."
- Connie Weaver, Circleville Municipal Court

by every law enforcement officer that ever met him"

we conduct our endeavors"
- Chief Gary Stroud, Sweeny PD

give them the courage for this tragedy."

"The judiciary has lost a leader. Judge Adkins created a legacy that represents the highest attributes of a Judge"
- Thomas J. Moyer
- Chief Jusice, Ohio Supreme Court
" He was absolutely one of the most compassionate human beings I have ever met in my life. No matter what kind of criminal
or crime he was dealing with, he was always more interested in the rehabilitation than the punishment side. He knew that sometimes
appropriate punishment was part of rehabilitation , and he always went by the letter of the law , but that compassion was
always there. I know many, many people left his court better than what they were when they came in"
- Chaplain Doyne "Doc" Wiggins
- Circleville PD, PCSO
"MY FAVORITE JUDGE, COMPASSIONATE, FRIENDLY, HONEST THERE WILL NEVER BE ONE LIKE HIM!!! HE PERFORMED MY HUSBAND AND I

him a lot"

" He was well-known throughout Ohio, John was active in almost anything you can name. I had a great deal of respect for
him personally as well as for his intellect and his knowledge of the law. He will be greatly missed."
- Judge Lee W. McClelland, President of Association of Municipal and County Judges
-excerpt from Circleville Herald
"John always said I came with the court when he was elected. I had worked for two judges before him so he decided
I should stay. I had know john since he became Law Director and had a great working relation with him. There are
so many stories I could relate of John, one being the day a gentleman suffered a heart attack in the middle of court and John
got down from the bench and gave the man CPR without a thought. John always called me CR and I recall his very first
Jury Trial when he came running down the hall yelling CR, CR, the verdict is in and I want you to come in and listen.
John always wanted me to be a part of all the new things that he introducted in the court making it a really great place to
work. John was not only my friend but also one of the greatest people i have every known. He always made things
fun and interesting for everyone. To his family, you know how much you all mean to me and I shall never forget a great
the friendship I shared with you all."
- Carolyn Royster, Former Clerk of Courts
- Circleville, Ohio
"I became aquainted with John in "his" courtroom. The circumstances were good and bad. He was a person who I respected.
He had a heart that was so big and full of so much compassion. No one person will ever be able to fill those shoes. My condolences
goes out to his family. "
- Melanie Cockrell, Circleville, Ohio
"A special working relationship is developed through respect, compassion and friendship. As Judge, you were
like a conductor of a symphony. You illuminated positive reinforcement in your staff. For all of us, it was a privilege to
be a part of your unique court. Your laughter filled our hearts with joy, your smile took away the stress of a difficult
day, and your handshake filled us with devotion. Most importantly, your cologne let us know you had arrived for work!
We all will miss you dearly!!!!"
- The staff of Circleville Municipal Court

"My husband, Dean, and I want to send our love and prayers to the Adkins family and to the staff of the Circleville Municipal
Court. My son, Rob Reeser, worked for Judge Adkins for 15 years, the last 8 as his clerk. The judge always treated Rob like
a son. He rejoiced with Rob and Dee at the birth of each of their 3 children, worried when they were ill, and was always
ready to offer advice. He was kind to my 89 year old dad who would drop in unannounced to visit Rob at any time during
the day. If the judge happened to be in Rob's office meeting with him, he never treated Dad like he was interfering
when he walked in and sat down and joined the meeting. He was a really nice person and he will truly be missed."
- Susan and Dean Glitt, Circleville, Ohio
"It was such a blessing that we were able to present Kendall with the award for the Judge on January 24th and that she
was able to take it home to him. Such a great man and a great Judge. His shoes will be so hard to fill.
We are so blessed to have worked with him on different programs. Our prayers go out to the family. God Bless you all"
- Randy & Sue Young
- MADD Ohio & MADD Fayette and Pickaway County
" What a bright light we have lost. John was a very fair judge. He used a special sense of humor to make his judicial
decisions and courtroom a place for fair treatment with a lot of human spirit and compassion. He was a friend to me over the
years and also to my family. He never treated my questions with anything but respect and a helpful kindness. After 30 years
of friendship - I will miss you John - heartfelt condolences to your wonderful family"
- Robyn Easter
- Williamsport, Ohio
"I had only met Judge Adkins on a few occassions, and like all law enforcement personel, he took a comedic view of what
we all deal with everyday. Judge Adkins even shared a few jokes with me in his courtroom as we waited for defendants, which
that kind of personal contact is rare in most other venues. Judge Adkins was viewed by all as a compassionate and caring individual
whom always strived for excellence in his endeavors. My prayers go out to his family and loved ones as we have lost a truly
honorable friend and leader"
- Sgt. Matthew Witryk, South Bloomfield PD

"Words can not express the gratitude, love and respect I have for John. It was a true honor to work for him and it truly
will not be the same court without "the big guy". He made every day enjoyable and allowed me to explore ideas we had to better
serve the citizens of Pickaway County. He cared about every individual who came through the court and would do everything
possible to make their lives better. Not to long ago I asked him why he continued to come to work each day as sick as he was,
and he responded with a simple, "because I love my job and I don't want to be anywhere else." Thanks for a wonderful 15 years
we spent together and the memories I'll always cherish. You were not just my boss, but a true friend that will never be replaced."
- Rob Reeser, Clerk, Circleville Municipal Court

"This is the type of person that deserves recognition from the entire law enforcement community. I would have rather
have met this judge than any on the U.S. Supreme Court. Your Honor, I know your final judgement will be to look upon the face
and to hear hear the one judgement that matters. From the eternal court in the heavens. I have no doubt it will sound something
like " please join me on the bench of eternity my good and faithful son " for all the wisdom and good works you have dedicated
your mortal alloted time to. May you enjoy the fruits of youre work for eternity. On earth those that will continue to fight
the path against evil will remember the you as you fought so bravely for all that was right. I will pass on the news that

- Chief Gerald Hagen, Gallitzin Borough PD
- Gallitzin, Pennsylvania
"I'm not sure how to sum up the eight years I have been blessed with while working for Judge Adkins. I'm not sure anyone
can. We have been fortunate enough to learn from a great man. His professionalism, character, and willingness to succeed drives
all of us to do our jobs every single day. Im not sure what these eight years may have been like without passing out doughnuts
to a courtroom full of people or riding in the passenger seat with someone who disputed a traffic citation to time his speedometer.
As a probation officer, I'm not sure we could have had a more fearless commander. I say commander, because thats what he was.
He enjoyed the diry aspects of the job and commended us everyday. Well Judge, now I commend you. Pickaway county is a better
place because of you. We love you and we know that you are sitting somewhere with your feet propped up smiling at all of us."
- Jason (J.C.) McGowan, Probation Officer
- Circleville Municipal Court
" I did not know him personally, but it sounds that the law enforcement family has lost a great man. To Judge Adkins
family.I offer the condolences of The Highland Il. Police Department to you. No words that i can type will replace the lost
of your husband, father and grandfather. To the Law Enforcement officers of Pickaway County,You have lost a friend, I wish
that we had a judge as loved and respected by officers of this county,as you all have shown to Judge Adkins Honor him by remembering
him and do your job to the best of your abilities. May the good lord watch over all of you at this time"
- Sgt. Tom L. Anglin, Highland PD
- Highland, Illinois
"Our heart, thoughts, and prayers are with the family of Judge Adkins, with the Village of South Bloomfield, and Pickaway
County. I did not personally know Judge Adkins but from what I read the Law Enforcement Community lost a true and great
Law Enforcement Brother. May GOD give you the comfort and peace that only HE can give to get through this terrible time.
Our peace is that he is in Heaven with two Law Enforcement Brothers (Port PD Officer James Saavedra and CCPD Officer Matthew
Thebeau) that we just lost and, in knowing, that their tour of duty has ended here on Earth. Their tour of duty now
is in Heaven for eternity. His legacy lives on in each and everyone of you. The Bible says, "Blessed are the Peacekeepers
for they are truly called the Sons of GOD." May GOD continue to protect and bless each one of you."
- Ricardo L. Villarreal, Port of Corpus Christi PD

"Just wanted to let you know that we have not been able to come to John's memorial or visiting hours since
I have been sick with a relentless cough that nothing helps. I'm having some tests done next week. Gary, of course,
has been inundated with the flu at the office. We are so sorry and were really looking forward to the service today.
You know no matter how little we saw you after you moved, the friendship never suffered. I plan to write you, Kendall,
and Taylor a long note about the person I had the privilege to interact with during my local work. His suggestions were
also positive and upbeat and usually worked. We have been thinking of you and will continue to do so. I'm sure
you have lots of people to call upon, but please know we would be honored to help in anyway. With our most sincere
sympathy"
- Gary and Cindi Gillen
- Circleville, Ohio
"Dear Beth, Kendall, and Taylor - I'm sorry to say we have not been able to honor John by coming
to the visitations and service since I have a cough that nothing helps and I don't want to be disruptive. Gary, of course,
has been busy seeing the flu. Nevertheless, we wanted to let you know that we appreciated so much that fact that we
always knew that even though we didn't see much of you after you moved, you have been the types of friends to act like no
time lapse. We all enjoyed you as our neighbors. Both Ryan and Corey were fairly young the but John even made
an impression on them. They both wanted us to relay their condolences. We are going on 32 years in this area and
I met John the first year, when I met John, and as I am sure he does with most people, he immediately endeared himself
as a friend to us. He was quite the environmentalist and never hesitated to help our environmental groups at no charge
when we needed an attorney. Later I so much appreciated his assigning litterers from the Municipal Court to my
summer litter crews. One time a guy commented that that judge must be an environmentalist since he assigned him time
with the crews. When I asked him where he littered, he said Court and Main. I was pleased to serve on John's community
committee to get input from different sectors of the community although it had not met in the last couple years. Of course,
we all appreciated his sense of humor, sometimes not knowing if he was kidding. I saw John coming out of the cinema
a few months ago and told him I had been thinking of him a lot. He hugged me and told me not to think about him - to
come see him. I always meant to do it but did not. That's my great loss. You must have such wonderful memories
that will keep him alive in your lives forever. He was certainly unique, caring, and thoughtful. Please
forgive our absence. We so wanted to go but we will at least honor him in our hearts where he has always been been but
even more coveted now. I know you must have a lot of people who can help you, but, of course, do not hesitate to ask if you
need anything. With our love and sympathy"
- Gary and Cindi Gillen
-Ashville, Ohio
"As working in law enforcement for 16 years now I have met many judges and not one can compare to the honor, respect
and true passion that John Adkins shared with the community. One of my fondest memories was on a Friday night in the summer
and I was on a traffic stop on US 23 and an unmarked Crown Vic pulled behind my cruiser just as I was administering SFST's.
To have the Judge watching over your shoulder as you do this is probably the most nerve racking thing a Police Officer can
experience. However, John, actually stayed until I had completed all tests and congratulated me on the fine job. Wow, I do
not think any other Judge anywhere would be heard like this: "6540....I'l check that alarm drop for you until you cab free
someone up....." As John is sitting in Heaven at the right hand of God I do not think he will ever realize how many lives
he has touched or changed over the years. I will always have a spot in my heart for Adkins humor. God speed you Honor."
- Ofcr. Eric Nungester, South Bloomfield PD
- The Nungester Family
"John, You did it. You did the one thing we all hope we can do. You left your mark. You touched so
many peoples lives. I remember the first time I met you, when Beth brought you to the fish fry at the lake. I
apprecicate the advice you gave me before I was hired by Columbus and will remember all the laughs we had trading stories
every Pumpkin Show. I am honored to have you as a member of the family and friend."
- Sgt. J. Skinner, Columbus PD
"I have alot of good memories about John. The OAMES Conferences and the time he shocked the Columbus Fire Department
when he gave his talk at the state arson school 2 years ago. He gave a talk on search warrants and told them that if
they sent the car to the impound lot, they needed a consent form from the owner to get back into the vehicle as they broke
the custody chain when it left the scene. He had alot of fire investigators talking to him after that session of the
class. Then when Russell and I were on Harrison Fire and had a fatal accident at 674 and 752. We went to court
and John was the prosecutor. We ended up being defense witnesses to testify that a gentleman was not the driver of the
vehicle that killed the other driver. But after our testimony, we ended up being witnesses for the prosecution.
When the judge asked John if he wanted to cross examine us, he just smiled and said that the defense attorney had already
cross examined us for him.!
He was always there when we needed him and was just one of the guys when he was around. He enjoyed public safety
and was a great advocate for us. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will remain as long as the public needs Fire,
EMS and Police services."

"I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the Adkins family for their loss. I only met The Judge a few
times in court and once at a hit and run at 762 and 104. He was out and heard me being dispatched by County to try to
locate suspect who fled on foot and he showed up to assist me until other units arrived, that was just how the Judge was.
The few times I was in court, he always had a way of making everyone laugh, even the defendent by one way or another.
I think I can speak for every Officer, Deputy and Trooper that has ever had to appear in Judge Adkins' courtroom, no matter
how bad you dreaded your "courtdate", you did look forward to get to talk with him because you knew it was going to be interesting."
- Sgt. Adam Jordan, Commercial Point PD
- Commercial Point, Ohio
"This world is lacking in these kind of men. Men who walk the talk and back the police in their community. He did stay
not isolated in an office he moved into the field where officers were living. A fine man that is an example to all of us.
I wish I had known him."
- Michael Weaver

Kendall - It was an honor to know your dad and from what I know and understand, the apple
doesn't fall far from the tree... I pray God continues to give you strength to do His will, and know you have friends for
encouragement along the way ~Your sister in Christ"

"We all are very aware of the many talents that John possesed. Of all of them I will miss most the HUMOR.On more than
one occasion John made the best of a bad thing with a bit of light humor. I remember one such time when Johns dad passed away.
Bob had been in my store and had ordered a pair of shoes that we were out of. He passed away prior to picking them up. At
the funeral and as I passed the casket and shook Johns hand he looked at me with a smile in hid eye and said " about those
shoes.. He won't be needing them any more." I will miss him on my golf team as well He always brought a lot of handicap
to our team. I will hit one for him this trip and I will hit it in his favorite place..The trees"
